00:00:37 – 00:01:33
made this happen, the founders, the owners. To my right, I got Ricky Nvar across from me, Patrick Stewart. And across from me again, Kevin Hernandez. Guys, what’s going on, man? Life is good. It’s magic. Can you believe this? We’re rebooting the podcast to help serve the business community here. It’s been a couple years. Yeah, we took a pause. We’re back. We’re back. We’re back. I only have one question. Are you killing it? Are you killing it with that big point? Here we go. We got

00:01:05 – 00:01:53
that big point going on. All right. So, today’s podcast is about meeting the mind behind three peaks. Since this is our first episode of our reboot, we got to hear from you all. Dude, you’re all the brand. I see your face everywhere. When I see Peak Performance Partners, I see you guys’ face plastered all over the place on the website, on your banners, and whatnot. So, we got to let people know what you guys are about, why you guys did this and made this happen. So, I’m going to ask you guys a

00:01:29 – 00:02:29
few questions. You guys are going to run away with it. I know I’m probably going to have to shut you all up because you all talked too much. I’m sure of it. Okay, so whoever wants to start, here’s my first question for you guys. What inspired you guys to start Three Peak? And what needs were you trying to fill in the business community? I think Yeah, I’ll start. So in 2018, I was trans transitioning out of a corporate role and um was just looking like, hey, what is it that we could

00:01:58 – 00:03:12
launch as a company that would be dynamic and be a support and have some meaning, have some purpose. And so uh with that, we came with into a franchise called the alternative board, which we purchased the franchise rights to Las Vegas. And we started here in Las Vegas in 2019, January 2019. And the whole concept was really our vision was almost what we built. It was kind of like we wanted to create a company, a consulting firm where a business no matter what phase or stage they’re in in their

00:02:35 – 00:03:31
business walk, whether it’s startup, it’s it’s your first million or getting to your first million or getting to your hundth million. Um, where do you need support? Where do you need help? Where do you need experts? And let’s go put together a group of experts that can provide that support. So yeah, that was that’s really what it was. It was just is there something we can do to to help because it’s it’s kind of lonely. You know that that saying it’s lonely at the

00:03:03 – 00:04:01
top business owners, it is lonely at the top being a business owner because nobody knows what it feels like to be in their shoes. And so we’re like, hey, if we can if we can start helping and support them with some expertise and some people who’ve built a hundred million dollar company, wow, how can everybody could use some of that help? Absolutely. So a penny and a dream. We’re trying to make this happen. Penny and a dream. And here we are. We’re we’re located here in in Las Vegas area,

00:03:32 – 00:04:30
so southern Nevada. So obviously we’re home here in Nevada. So tell us a little bit about what’s happening. What are some of the things that you’re doing to help businesses move the needle right here in the state of Nevada? I’ll let you jump on that one. Well, so um first I want to push back a little bit on what he just said before we got started because I want to get real. When we started this thing out, at least in my opinion, I didn’t know what we were starting. I mean, just like every business, just

00:04:01 – 00:04:59
like with every entrepreneur, we want to serve. I think that’s how we started out with our heart, right? We wanted to serve. We wanted to understand how do we open the doors for business owners and and that’s where Patrick was like you know I researched this franchise I want you to come and help me research it and it was an easy way to open the door right because we like every entrepreneur of it’s a journey right it there we didn’t script this out right when we talked about this we we

00:04:31 – 00:05:32
knew we wanted to help some people but we didn’t know how to help them and we knew we needed some tools and u the alternative Lord was a tool. And so where we started to where we’re at today and I’m going to get to your question right now. It’s been amazing. It’s been an amazing journey. Um and and we can I me personally I can relate to an entrepreneur who’s starting out that doesn’t know exactly um they know what they want to do but they don’t know how they’re going to get there. And we

00:05:01 – 00:06:02
follow that path. But what we do for business owners in my opinion it’s amazing. Um, as Patrick alluded to, we have a team. We have a team of experts. We have what was it? 300 years of business acumen. Damn, you guys are old. You guys are old. Who else can do that in Nevada? Yeah, right. That’s a strong. So, so tell us about that personal journey because each of you have been in business at different stages of startup to maybe more established, different sizes. You guys have started some of you

00:05:32 – 00:06:22
started your own business. What is your own personal leadership journey and story that got you here? You’ve been there, done that. We know that already. So, tell us a little bit about that. All right. So, then I I like telling telling my story and then I brag about these guys. Their story is amazing. But I’m a young entrepreneur, right? I started off my first company when I was 15 years old and my grandparents owned a dairy farm. You know, dad didn’t want to do that business. And so, he owned a

00:05:57 – 00:06:47
tree nursery or firewood business. So, I’ve been driving a tractor since I was nine. and that hard work ethic. And I just I grew up around business owners and it’s just been amazing. At 15, I said, “Dad, I want to own my own business.” He says, “Look, as long as it doesn’t cost me anything. It’s not illegal, unethical, or immoral son, go nuts.” And started off just with an idea and a dream and just that hard work ethic and built something became the largest paintball field in the city and

00:06:22 – 00:07:15
then the largest in the state and then the largest paintball. You said paintball. That was my first business. First business is paintballing. That’s right. All right. And um it it grew and as I had that business, I started other businesses and I’ve had probably about to to date about 13 businesses. I’ve had about some some amazing successes. Uh a couple really great exits. Uh there were times I thought I was the smartest person in the room. And if you’re an entrepreneur right now listening to this, if you you

00:06:48 – 00:07:36
know, we’re the smartest people in the room sometimes because we’re the only people in the room, right? Like you’re like, “Hey, this is going to be an amazing idea.” And then we go disseminate to our team and we’re like, “Yeah, that cost us a lot of money and that one really hurt. That was not a good idea.” Yeah. And we didn’t have I didn’t have any guidance. My parents passed away at a very young age. So I was running took over my dad’s businesses, ran my own com businesses. I

00:07:11 – 00:08:00
graduated from college and a developer came out and said, “Hey, I want your land.” And I was like, “Okay, it wasn’t selling, but for that price, you got yourself a deal.” And at the time, my kids were super small, itty bitty, one and two. and I just wanted to find something that I can do to come home and and just be home with them, right? So, I moved to Vegas to sell time share of all things and I started off in sales. Then I started off then I moved into a presenter and I

00:07:36 – 00:08:42
became one of the top five presenters in the entire world for the largest vacation ownership company uh Windham vacation resorts at the time which is now Windham destinations and I fell in love because when I moved into that space of presenting I also became a manager and I loved that moment when I was training somebody and the light clicked like they were like oh that’s how you do it and pouring in people suddenly became one of my greatest passions. ever. And I just God, how God continues to form and guide my life. It’s just

00:08:09 – 00:08:55
seeing all the things I’ve been through has prepared me to continue to be a servant and to serve others in the space that we’re at. And so, somebody in corporate said, “Hey, here’s a brilliant idea. Let’s go ahead and uh double their pay.” I mean, double their pay, cut their pay in half, double their hours, and they’re making so much money, they’ll still be happy with it. I said, “No, I I don’t think so. Those numbers don’t pencil for me.” So, I didn’t know what I

00:08:32 – 00:09:16
was going to do next. I ran Nevada Business Magazine for about a year with Connie and Lyall Brennan. And then after that, it was just really not for me. And we kind of parted ways and and said, “Thank you so much for the opportunity.” And I met Patrick and Kevin. And as I met them in the business community, this is where God brought this together. It was just perfect timing because I didn’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t know what God had planned for me, what was next. And I’ve known of Patrick and

00:08:54 – 00:09:37
Kevin. I’ve seen them in the business community. I’ve seen the way they treat people and connect with people and serve people. I said, ‘Guys, I don’t know what’s next. They said, ‘Well, come check out what we’re doing. And so, they invited me to a board with the alternative board and said, ‘Hey, come take a look at this idea. And I had an idea, like I always do. I’m saying, “Here’s the next great idea.” Right. And and to let you know, if anybody wants to know, I was like, “Hey,

00:09:15 – 00:10:09
I want to get paid for networking people. I just want to get paid. I just want to connect people.” Introducing you. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, I’ll introduce you and write me a check. Yeah. And he said, he goes, “I’m going to have 10 companies all paying me 3500 bucks a month, and I’m just going to make introductions to all 10 of these companies.” And so I ran them by the board by by other business owners. And they’re like, “Yeah, that’s not going to pencil, bro. You’re going to make some money.

00:09:42 – 00:10:29
It’s an interesting idea.” They said, “Sell something and we’ll pay you a commission.” There you go. There you go. So So he was the collector. So but Patrick and Kevin knowing my heart said, “Hey, listen. Here’s the thing. We just started recently. if you join us, we’ll bring you on as an equal owner. And I said, I love it. Tell me what why do you guys do what you do? I know what you do. And what they said changed my life. The moment they said, kind of like what Pat said, hey, it’s

00:10:06 – 00:10:57
lonely at the top, but we believe in helping business owners own their company, not the company, own them. If you own your company, if you can literally be able to go on holiday for 30 days or more, and your company runs without you, guess what you have? You have something you can sell, you can give away. It’s not a liability. It’s an asset you want to hand down to your children. It can you can just let it you can live off of it. But as a person, you’re healthy mentally, physically,

00:10:32 – 00:11:17
emotionally. You can actually when you come home, you can actually be home instead of stress out. And that stress then carries and has a ripple effect that most people don’t talk about. And if you’re a business owner and you know right now, you listen to this, you know exactly what I’m talking about. When you’re like, you know, your spouse says, “Honey, how you doing?” I’m fine. You don’t seem fine. Yeah. and their heart and how they reach into the community. They have this

00:10:53 – 00:11:49
mentality of givers gain. Give first, give more. Hey, here’s a great idea. Give some more and God will take care of the rest. And it’s been that way and what God’s done in this and how he brings amazing talent to our team. But that’s really kind of how I got started in the whole journey. So really a key aspect of this that you keep coming back to is this idea of being of service, this servant leadership piece. So Patrick, what are your thoughts on that? I mean, that a big part of the vision of what you’re

00:11:22 – 00:12:13
trying to do and then tell us a little bit about your story again. How did you get here? Yeah, I mean, I I think the servant leader concept, right? I you kind of most people think about the the pyramid, you know, the owner on top, and it really is it’s reverse. I mean, the owner’s on the bottom. At the end of the day, if you don’t have your people and you don’t have your processes, you’re not going to have anything, you know, and I mean, you’ll just you’ll you’ll be

00:11:47 – 00:12:34
you can scale up or grow to a certain level of income, but you’re never going to get beyond that and it’s going to be frustrating and you’re going to be a one-man band. I mean, you’re going to be if you don’t sell something, nobody you’re not eating and and then and then that’s and we see this all the time, right, Kevin? People will start their company and they’ll go out and they’ll either They’re either getting ready. They’re getting ready and I’m gonna I

00:12:12 – 00:13:19
need to get ready. I need to have my website and my business cards and I need to have uh you know maybe a book and and then before I go out and I do what I need to do and it’s like ready aim aim. Hey, their favorite task is to turn the open sign from o from closed to open. Stand there and stand there. We got Hey, we’re on the air and wait for people to come in. But that’s not how it works, right? No. No. And so, so I think it it’s um just again watching these business owners make these m little mistakes. And I

00:12:45 – 00:13:49
think so, so my story, I’m the youngest of seven, grew up in Arizona, third generation Arizonian, Arizona people. Um and but I I think it’s kind of funny. I always say this and my my dad was a rancher, but one of the things being the youngest of seven, I learned right away how I had to if I wanted to eat, I had to I had to think a couple steps ahead. And I think that is probably everything I’ve ever done is I’m always thinking a couple steps ahead. So I I I truly one of my earliest

00:13:16 – 00:14:11
memories is we’re serving chicken. Well, I wanted drumsticks and there’s only a few drumsticks on a chicken. I think we had like two or three chickens. So, we got six drumsticks. So, what I learned is I would go in and say, “Hey, mom, can I help you bring the food out to the table, and then I would go and I’d set my drumsticks in the kitchen, bring the food out, and I’d wait until everybody was eating.” And once I saw them all eating, I would grab those drumsticks, go grab my drum, go grab my drumsticks,

00:13:45 – 00:14:41
because again, if I just brought them out, they were going to get grabbed off my plate. So then I could just So, it’s survival. I mean, essentially survival. It really is survival. So just kind of I think that mentality, you know, of of just also just outworking things and being a little bit more little more intense, bringing some intensity to to a situation is probably one of my greatest assets. And on the flip side of that coin, one of my things that’s probably the worst about me, but so so we but

00:14:13 – 00:15:12
I’ve started like Ricky, multiple businesses. Probably the the highlights, well, first I I started off in the hospitality field or industry. I was working for a time share developer, but I was in the operations side in Los Batis Resort and Spa in Sedona. I worked there in college. I went to college at NAU northern Arizona and I worked in the food and beverage and then when I graduated college, I went as a food and beverage supervisor and then we opened up three restaurants there. So, I got to

00:14:42 – 00:15:31
be a part of opening up restaurants, which is an amazing experience. But I love food and beverage. But then I I always was looking for opportunities and I I would do I did an internship at the front desk so I could learn that I would just come in like I would work extra like they don’t pay me I just want to learn and then uh one of one day the chairman of the company happened to be in there and he was walking in. I said he always got his espresso in the morning. So I went let me go make your

00:15:06 – 00:15:45
espresso for you. And I I I just I said what’s new and he goes you know what we’re buying a new property. He goes you might be perfect for this. And then the next thing the GM calls me. He goes did you just talk to Joe? what did you say? And I go, I didn’t say anything. He just asked me. I told him what happened. And he goes, “Get up to my office.” So, I go up to the GM’s office. I’m like, “Oh, no. I’m in trouble.” And he goes, “I don’t know what you said or what you

00:15:26 – 00:16:27
did, but he wants you to be the general manager of this new property we’re buying.” And I was like, I was 25. Knew everything. Bulletproof. Bulletproof. And then, and so we walk in on a holiday and we brought a team up to help set off a a holiday before the final purchase had happened. Guess who was working that property? And I go into that kitchen and there was Kevin. Kevin was back. That’s how we came together. That’s how Ebony and Ivory came together. And I said to Kevin, I said I said to

00:15:56 – 00:16:54
Kevin, I said, “Kevin, the Calvary is here.” He’s He was so ridiculous. I’m just like, “Oh my god, the Calvary is here.” I wanted to throw up. Yeah. Was he going to be like your boss or I was the general manager. I’m here to save you. Yeah. I was saving everybody. Yeah. We That’s incredible. So, you got some hospitality experience as well, opening a new property, which is a whole new world, a whole different world in terms of business. That’s incredible. And then started a couple businesses and

00:16:25 – 00:17:24
and had a large one of the largest independent marketing companies here in Las Vegas in the time share industry where we we would send 28,000 prospects to go to Ricky so he could sell them. So, thank you. And that kind of got me going into marketing and understanding, you know, hey, if if two things, right? If if nobody sells, if somebody doesn’t sell something, nothing’s going to happen. Yeah, that’s exactly. But it’s on that marketing and the amount of re energy that it takes to get

00:16:55 – 00:17:51
somebody to the point where they’re ready to buy. And I think that’s the thing that probably we’ve done the most is we’re to your point, you said we’re everywhere. We are everywhere. We don’t we don’t stop. We, you know, this morning we all started on a on a team’s call at 7 am with one of our clients and we, you know, it was meeting after meeting and and doing trainings and doing development. Ricky was doing some sales training with one of our clients. I did some leadership development. I had a

00:17:23 – 00:18:11
one-on-one coaching. Kevin had one-on-one coaching. And so, we’re, you know, with two different, we’re just hustling. And then we’re in in that time, we’re also prospecting. We’re also have, you know, always trying to fill that sales funnel and, you know, we we we say what gets measured gets done. And so we our salesunnel has no leaks. And I think that’s another thing that we’ve just perfected. And we’re always we’re always trying to be better. We’re just trying

00:17:47 – 00:18:46
to, you know, I think I heard a football coach say we just want to be one mile an hour faster, which one mile an hour faster isn’t that fast, but if you just strive for that, you eventually you if you’re always working on it. And how do you become a little bit faster? a little bit faster. Kevin, tell me this. Uh, Peak Performance Partners is not the only business coaching and consulting firm out there. There’s others out there. You guys have been doing this for five, six, seven, six years now. What

00:18:15 – 00:19:25
makes you all different? Well, Dr. John, I’ve been I’ve been waiting for the moment to see. I go, I’ve earned that title. I’ve earned that title. Dr. John, well, John, do you want to like like lay down? You can have time with Dr. My hourly rate starts crying. He’s gonna start crying. He’s gonna say, “Roy, don’t make me do this.” Right. Roy Firestone, right? Let’s see. Ask that question again. What What makes What makes Peak Performance Partners different? Because

00:18:53 – 00:19:53
there are other That’s what it is. Yeah. No, I have my train of thought. Thank you so much. Thank you, doctor. Um So basically what it is is not only do we have the 300 years of business acumen, we all have special we have specialists on our teams, strategic planning, leadership development, sales and marketing, but what makes us what what makes us magical and this is where we start to develop the the resources that we have because not only do we sell services, we like to put ourselves out there to say, “Hey,

00:19:24 – 00:20:15
listen. If you got an issue, there’s resources out there because a a lot of business owners don’t know what they don’t know. And and and when you’re starting a business or you’re working in the business, you hibernate yourself, right? So, when do you get time to go out there and see there’s money over here and there’s a resource over here. There’s stuff that business owners can use to help themselves, but they just don’t have the time and they don’t get out there. Mhm.

00:19:50 – 00:21:01
But most importantly, as an organization, I believe that we are a sales and marketing machine because that’s my background, Patrick’s background, Ricky’s background. Um, and right along with serving, we love to be in front of people. And honestly, so I’m just going to I’m going to share a story with you guys. So, we just hired someone who worked for the other team, worked for another team out there. their impression of us was I’m just going to put out there sleazy salespeople until she got into our

00:20:25 – 00:21:33
organization and understand understood who we are as as people and was like wow just sitting with you guys through meetings. It’s you guys are truly you lead with your heart and that’s important because again it’s a dog eat dog world. When we started this business it was a kill what you eat. Yeah. Eat what you kill. Eat what you eat what you kill. Right. And so if we are we’ve experienced it. We know that many business owners out there are working. They’re giving they’re paying

00:20:59 – 00:21:58
to own their business. They’re not taking any paychecks. Yeah. Right. So we understand we understand that journey. And so again, I think from my perspective, uh, most business owners feel like they have a product and service that will sell themselves, sell itself. It doesn’t happen that way. You’ve got to put yourself out there. And most business owners, that’s that fear that they have of putting themselves out there. They can’t, right? And I think a lot of people look at us

00:21:28 – 00:22:14
and rely on us to help put them out there. I love that. And we’re definitely going to talk about that in future podcast episodes because I think that there’s magic there, right? You know, that’s where the revenue is in terms of that. Ricky, tell me I know you’re going to jump in too, but also think about this. Uh, hold me back. I know holding you back, bro, but I’m going to let you loose here in just a second. I also want to hear what’s one success story that you have with a

00:21:52 – 00:22:45
client that you guys have been serving that you think people need to hear that that we need to know about. Oh man, there’s How much time do you have? Not a lot. Okay. It’s a podcast, bro. That was a good hook right there. Use that for a hook. I’m I’m actually going to go with this and this is probably maybe Patrick and Kevin can even speak to this one more than I can, but I love this story because one of the things we talked about is hey, helping business owners own their company versus it owning them,

00:22:18 – 00:23:09
right? And so there’s we’ve worked with companies of all sizes and the one one of these the stories Truckucky Meadow Pest Control they are rock stars and the thing about them they’re humble and they realize that they don’t know everything. So when they start working with us and allowing us to serve them and work with them and guys jump in and find anything I’m saying anything incorrect and Jody you can always call me up and say yeah Ricky you were wrong. You were wrong. But one of the things they were starting

00:22:44 – 00:23:37
up, they had about 800,000 in revenue and they they were just still kind of paycheck to paycheck, right? Couldn’t make payroll. They were bringing in revenue, you know, and there was like he, you know, the the husband brilliant in pest control. Like this dude is like he knows his bugs, he knows his pest, he knows his like Yeah. He he worked for one of the major um corporations in pest control, right? Or nationwide pest control company. So he opened his own company like most people do, right? I’ve done this and now

00:23:10 – 00:24:08
I’m going to start run my own company. And after working with Patrick and Kevin, the story is that putting in the work, putting in the effort, being guided and coached a few years later, it’s not an overnight thing, right? It takes some time, but now they’re 23% profitable, right? They pay themselves very well. So, they’re still like pay themselves a good paycheck, profitable. And this couple, this company, they take more vacation, right? They live life more than most people who make millions upon

00:23:40 – 00:24:33
millions of dollars. Yeah. And I love that they are still constantly actively working on their business and tapping in and they’re still saying, “Hey, just cuz I’ve hit this milestone doesn’t mean I’m done, you know, keep working on it getting better.” And they’ve also been able to, you know, give their employees better benefits a 401k matching. I mean, they’ve been able to because of their growth as business owners. And I think that’s the thing is one of our taglines is like we like to

00:24:06 – 00:25:01
get the business owner into the owner box because the business owner starts out on the field and then they they kind of move to the sideline but they keep running out onto the field and they definitely then they maybe they think they’re going to be in the owner box. So they run up there, but then they run right back and then they run out onto the field again and then they wonder why is why aren’t I growing or why are people quitting or why why is my the culture of my companies this bad or why am I not having the profits that

00:24:33 – 00:25:33
I want or why is it when I leave the business falls apart and then and that’s where we’re able to come in and go okay let’s get you into the owner box but show you what you need out on the field and on the sideline in order to get you into that owner Because the beauty about being in the owner box also is this because pretty much the American dream, right, is build your company up and sell it. And we’ve had multiple of our clients do that. And that is that’s also one of those like when they get to get

00:25:03 – 00:25:55
the big check and truly cash it in, right? Yeah. You get because we everybody’s going to leave their business. You’re going to leave your business one way or another. This is true. Planned or unplanned. It’s Well, and that’s very much the idea of this podcast. posting through the ambulance and and what we do at Peak Performance Partners, we talk about this idea of our mission is to help your business achieve success faster. Yes. And creating systems and processes. That’s what you

00:25:30 – 00:26:21
were talking about there. Okay. I got one last question for you, Patrick. I’m going to give this to you. You all can jump in if you want to. Well, looking ahead. Yes, I know you’re all talkers. Looking ahead. Yeah. Where do you see Peak Performance Partners in five years and in 10 years? Yeah. I would say five to 10 years. Number one, we’ll have some pretty dynamic technology that’s going to be driving. I mean, everybody’s seeing AI and what it’s doing and and so I think

00:25:55 – 00:26:49
there’s going to be some technology that that we’re we’ve been working on for a while and I think so that’s one thing that we’ll see that is going to help again those business owners uh achieve success faster. I think also we’ll probably be in multiple markets because we’re we’re really perfecting what the model is here in Vegas and then we also we are up in Reno twice a month but in within Nevada but then rolling that out and kind of showing people hey here’s

00:26:22 – 00:27:17
how you do it here’s your marketing here’s your systems and processes here’s how you generate a lead here’s your scripting and how you get a new client and then just finding the the right you know the right people that because you got to have the right mentality of person to start to be the the point guard or the leader. But then you start to bring on those teams and really with executives retiring and that’s really all of our coaching staff. They’re retired executives and they’re they’ve

00:26:50 – 00:27:45
been very successful in their careers but they’re not done and they’ve they want to do some consulting but they really can’t they haven’t gone out and generate their own clients. So, our marketing machine, that system that we’ve developed of generating leads, generating clients, and then being able to fulfill is something that I think we can roll that out to any market. So, we’re talk about scaling, right? We’re talking about here we are in Nevada, right? Northern and southern,

00:27:17 – 00:28:04
but there’s more, right? You know, there there are businesses all across the country that need what we do here at Performance Partners. And that’s exciting. And so, the whole country is your playground here. Here we go. Oh my gosh. And yeah, we’re going to make this international. See, you got the vision here. So that’s what this is all about.
